Join us to hear Dr. Grace Hampton, Professor Emerita of Art, Art Education and Integrative Arts, and Intergenerational Leadership Institute Fellow, The Pennsylvania State University.

This audio/visual presentation will explore the origin, making, and use of traditional Kente and Adinkra cloth, decorative gourds, masks, woven baskets, and drums from Ghana and Nigeria, West Africa. Examples of the traditional and contemporary use of these artifacts will be discussed within the context of the historical, cultural, and perceptual aspects of the maker and consumer of these artifacts.

An exhibition of Kent and Adinkra cloth and other traditional artifacts will be displayed during the evening of this presentation. Dr Hampton is Professor Emerita of Art, Art Education and Integrative Arts and former Vice Provost and Senior Faculty Mentor at The Pennsylvania State University. She currently serves as the Interim Head of the School of Visual Arts at Penn State and a fellow in the Intergenerational Leadership Institute sponsored by the College of Agriculture at Penn State. Before coming to Penn State, she taught at Northern Illinois University, California State University in Sacramento, Jackson State University, and the University of Oregon in Eugene. She served as Assistant Director of the Expansion Arts Program at the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington D.C. and received two Fulbright Specialist Awards. Dr. Hampton conducts research and has published articles in the areas of African and African American arts and culture and community development through the arts

There will be a silent auction of the Norman Rockwell print "The Golden Rule" (pictured ). The original mosaic was a gift from First Lady Nancy Reagan to the United Nations.
