Dr. Esther Obonyo is the Executive Director of the Global Building Network, a partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. In addition to her primary faculty appointment in the College of Engineering, Dr Obonyo is an Associate of the Institute of Computational and Data Sciences. Dr Obonyo’s research uses a holistic system-thinking approach to explore the complex wicked problem of delivering affordable climate-resilient housing in a sustainable manner. She has leveraged this work to provide international learning experiences for over 2100 students. Her projects have been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy. Her work has been disseminated through over 150 journal papers, conference proceedings, and presentations.  She is an associate editor of the ANTHROPOCENE and Journal of IT in Construction.
