Model United Nations
Model United Nations, or Model UN, is a simulation of the United Nations that strives to educate participants about civics, effective communication, globalization, and diplomacy.
In Model UN, students take on roles as foreign diplomats and participate in simulated UN sessions. Participants research a country, act as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, consult, and then develop solutions to world problems via drafting and voting on resolutions.
During conferences, held at various colleges, participants must use a variety of communication and critical thinking skills to defend the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, small group communication, research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, conflict resolution, note taking, and technical writing.
